Stray Central

I have been involved in animal rescue since 1983 and was a veterinarian technician for 5 years before my disabilities forced me into early retirement. Stray Central was incorporated on October 4, 1999 and IRS nonprofit status was granted on August 24, 2000.

As an animal rescue organization, Stray Central’s goal is to prevent hundreds of companion animals from going to over-crowded area shelters each year, shelters where most of them would certainly be euthanized. Our main function is to spay/neuter, vaccinate, tend to the medical/emotional needs, and be a safe haven for as many homeless, unwanted, and abused/neglected companion animals as possible until they can be adopted into loving, forever homes. Our second purpose is to be a devoted home where companion animals with severe medical, emotional, and/or behavioral problems can spend their remaining days with love, understanding, and without the threat of euthanasia. Stray Central’s third, but no less essential role is to be a source of information for pet owners and to educate the public about the importance of spaying/neutering their pets and all other aspects of responsible pet ownership.

Rescue FAQs

We serve northwest Arkansas, southeast Oklahoma, and southwest Missouri. We DO NOT SHIP our rescues anywhere, by any means of transportation! We require a "face-to-whiskers" meeting to ensure the adopters and the pets are a good match.

Additional adoption info

We have an initial Adoption Questionnaire to be filled out by potential adopters that will give us an idea if the match is a good one. If the questionnaire is approved, we then require a legally-binding Adoption Agreement to be signed and an adoption fee be paid.

If the cat hasn't had it's full round of vaccinations or hasn't been spayed/neutered yet, adopters are required to use the provided Stray Central Verification form to be completed by the adopter's veterinarian and returned to us, showing the procedures were done. Adopters are provided with a medical record showing what procedures have been done (worming, vaccinations, etc.), when they were done, and when/if follow-ups are needed.
