Additional adoption info
Our shelter and rescue outreach adoption program is currently managed by a small group of people and initial contact should be made by email. Please allow us several business days to respond to you. None of our animals are kept at our primary facility since we are foster-based, and also because we work with the local Suwannee County animal shelters.
Our animals may also be located at our partner organizations such as PetSmart, or they may still be housed in the shelters (in this case, we will have done all the adoption preparation but we are unable to find a foster at this time for them, so we return them to the shelter after spay/neuter/vaccine/testing, etc.) We call this our RTS or Return-To-Shelter program. It is a way for us to get outstanding pets ready to adopt. If a pet is in our RTS program it has been approved through us for adoption and prepared accordingly.
If you adopt directly from us we will not do a home visit or require home monitoring. We will ask on the application about your other animals in the home, and may ask for a veterinary reference if you have a current veterinarian, but we will not exclude applications if you do not have a current veterinarian.
Adoption fees:
1) If you adopt directly from us, if the pet is in a foster home and not at a shelter or adoption event, many times the fee is on a donation basis with a suggested minimum.
2) If you adopt one of our pets from an onsite partner such as the shelter or PetSmart, then the shelter fees apply (normally around $20) and/or the PetSmart event fees apply (normally also around $25).
We will have you fill out an initial adoption application which can be found on our website and downloaded. We are working on an interactive form for the future. We ask that you print the form, complete it, and either email it, mail it, or drop it by our clinic. Applications can be done in person if the pet is at a live event or PetSmart location.
If adoption requests for a particular pet are remote (meaning no one is in person, all applicants are internet-based), we will prioritize the applications first in the order in which they are received by email, and then again after communication with you as a potential adopter. If a pet is at a local PetSmart or animal shelter, if you visit in person to adopt and are approved then you will be given priority. In other words, we will not "hold" an adoption from an online request if there is someone present who is approved for the adoption at an event or facility.
If for some unfortunate reason an adoption does not work out for you or the pet, we ask that you contact us immediately.
