Grateful Paws Rescue

Grateful Paws Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization led by a small group of volunteers whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home dogs found in local animal control facilities.

Rehabilitation is the act of restoring shelter dogs to a normal life through decompression, education and guidance. All dogs have been temperament tested and we do not represent dogs with a history of aggression.

While with the rescue, dogs are also provided full veterinary care and are not available for adoption until they have been spayed/neutered and given a clean bill of health. Our goal is to work with the dogs and new owners to help the dogs achieve behavioral balance and transition smoothly into their new homes.

We operate 100% on volunteers and donations.

Additional adoption info

STEP 1: Fill out the online application COMPLETELY.

STEP 2: Contact your vet and personal references to let them know we will be calling! Please only fill out an application if you/your vet will have on record that your current/most recent dog was up to date on medical care including vaccines and year-round heartworm prevention.

STEP 3: Watch your email. We will contact you via email if we have any additional questions and to let you know if your application has or has not been approved.

STEP 4: Once your application has been approved, you will be given the contact information for who to communicate with to discuss the dog(s) and set up an appointment to come and meet the dog(s) you are interested in.

STEP 5: During the visit, you (along with a GPR volunteer) will determine if/which dog(s) you are interested in are a good fit for your family.

STEP 6: Once you have chosen a dog, you and a GPR volunteer will set up a mutually agreed upon time for GPR to deliver your new dog to you and complete the home check. Each dog will come with a complete health record, 3 days worth of food, and the following month’s heartworm medication to get the new owners started.

STEP 7: An adoption contract must be completed and an adoption fee (cash or check please) will be collected at the time of the adoption delivery/home check. Adoption fees are as follows: Ages 0-7: $300; Ages 8 and up: $200

STEP 8: During the two week trial adoption period, you MUST attend a free transition training lesson with Paramount Dog Training. If additional training is needed, GPR adopters can benefit from taking up to three additional training lessons with Paramount at a discounted rate of $50/lesson.

STEP 9: During the two week trial adoption period, you also must take the newly adopted dog to your vet for a general exam and to establish a point of medical reference for your dog.

**If at any time during the two week trial period it is determined by the owners or by GPR that the adoption should not go through, the dog can be brought back and the adoption fee will be returned.

STEP 10: After the two week trial period is over and the adoption has been finalized, your adoption donation will be cashed.

*Grateful Paws Rescue stands by their dogs. If at any time within the dog’s life you encounter a problem, please contact GPR immediately as opposed to any other rescue or animal control facility.
