Additional adoption info

Info form our How to Adopt page on our website: If you find interest in one of our adoptable rescue pets please fill out our Adoption Request Form so we can get to know a little about you and your home life. This form will help us better serve your family's need and place our rescue dogs in appropriate homes for their temperaments and needs.

Once we receive your completed form we will contact you to set up an In - Your - Home Meet and Greet with the pet you inquired about. We try to respond to every inquire within 48-72 hours after submission. Please keep in mind just because you apply does not guarantee you a meet and greet; We may receive multiple submissions for one pet. We do our best to place each rescue in the best possible home to set them up for success.

At the Meet and Greet we will introduce you to the pet. We ask that every member of the household, or at least decision makers, of the household attend. This way everyone can meet the pet and decide if the pet's temperament, Size, and Personality is the right fit for your family. At this time we will also introduce your current pets with the possible new family member. You can expect a Meet and Greet to last at least 1 hour but can take up to 3 hours if needed.

After the Meet and Greet you will have a few choices.

1. You decide the pet is not a fit, OR you need time to discuss options / Need time to consider. The Pet will return safely to foster care. We may conduct other Meet and Greets during this time.

2. You decide, Yes, We want to move forward with the adoption process. We will go ahead and have you fill out the Official Adoption Form & Contract and exchange the adoption fee. We offer a 1-2 week window where if for whatever reason the dog doesn't work out in your home we will fully return your adoption fee within 30 days the exception of a $50 Deposit.

3. After the 1 week trial period you will receive the Microchip and County Registration Forms to transfer into your family name. Upon signing the Adoption Contract and Registration transfer the pet will legally and financially become your responsibility.

About Homeward Bound Animal Rescue AZ

Homeward Bound Animal Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill, volunteer run animal rescue organization serving the state of Arizona. We are dedicated to rescuing pets left homeless for whatever reason – Including, but not limited to, Pets in public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, Pets given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, and those in danger of abuse, neglect, or abandonment.

We place pets in loving, responsible, and nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, dogs in the greatest need take priority.

We practice a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives.

Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, Fully vaccinated, Microchipped and registered in accordance to local AZ laws.

We are determined to keep administrative expenses extremely low so that virtually every dollar taken in goes directly to the care of the animals. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of adopted Pets even beyond the adoption process.

Finally, we strive to work with area shelters and other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets.

We are a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to restoring the pets under our care to physical and emotional health as they await placement in loving, responsible homes.

All Adoption Fees, Donated funds and Materials will be spent and used directly on the care of our rescue animals.

Homeward Bound Animal Rescue AZ's adopted pets

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Phoenix, AZ.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
