We provide animal care and protection services for all of Bernalillo County. Bernalillo County Animal Care is committed to:
• Providing humane care to companion animals
• Reuniting lost pets with their owners
• Adopting pets to loving homes

• Educating the public about animals, their needs, and our critical role as a community resource

Adoption steps

  1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
    1. Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t wait!
  2. Meet the Pet
    1. Once you have a pet in mind that you would like to meet, one of our staff members will assist with an introduction.
  3. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. Once a proper match is found, our pets are usually able to go home same day (so make sure to prep your home!)
  4. Take the Pet Home
    1. Our adoption fees are donation based, meaning you can "name your own price". All donations go to supporting animal programs.

Please note that all adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t wait! If you see an animal online you’re interested in adopting, note the animal’s name and A# and visit our resource center Tuesday – Saturday from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. We are located at 3001 2nd St. SW in the South Valley. Our friendly staff and volunteers are here to assist you and answer any questions.
