Heart of the Underdog is a 501c3 nonprofit animal rescue founded in 2020 for the sole purpose of rescuing and re homing animals in need. Our mission is to advocate for pets in need through fostering, adoption, education, spay/neuter and community outreach to help strengthen the human-animal bond.
There is a real crisis in Texas with too many unwanted dogs leading to overcrowded shelters ultimately ending in euthanasia for so many of these dogs.
All animals will be fully vetted, micro-chipped, spayed/neutered, and placed into foster homes until they are able to be adopted. Many of our pets transport to the Pacific Northwest to be adopted and placed in their fur-ever homes.

Adoption steps
- Submit Application
- Please submit an application at our website below & a volunteer will be in touch!

- Interview
- Once your application is approved, we do a phone interview and then connect you to the pup's foster family so you can learn more about them.
- Meet the Pet
- A virtual meet & greet is done for out of state adopters and an in person meet & greet will be arranged for local adopters.
- Home Check
- A virtual home check is done for out of state adopters & an in person home check is done for local adopters.
- Sign Adoption Contract
- If everything goes well, we'll send over our adoption contract to be signed.
- Pay Fee
- Take the Pet Home
