Shelter FAQs

We are a animal shelter that is run off of donations, that does intake from the city/county in Des Moines County Iowa. Once the animal has not been claimed we put said animal out on our adoption floor and they are now looking for their new furever homes. Dogs and cats that have been left behind are usually pretty sad at first, so we give them the love and support they need. Each one is different in their needs, whether we have to play with them daily or spend more time letting them trust new people, each has their own ways of coming out and making themselves into the best companion you will meet! We do this to be the animals voice and learn what we can to make them successful in their new homes. All these pets need love, and we will give that to them!

Adoption steps

  1. Meet the Pet
We like them to meet the pet to make sure it is the right fit, sometimes if far away we do this after we run application and its approved.
  2. Submit Application
Fill out application to best of knowledge, the more we know the quicker it may go. Answer our calls when we try to reach you.
  3. Approve Application
We call past vets for references, make sure landlords approve, and also call on home insurance for some dog breeds.
  4. Home Check
We do not go to homes but we do a meet and greet with other dogs in home and then make sure household is ready for a long term adoption.
  5. Sign Adoption Contract
Sign adoption contract and pay fees then.
  6. Take the Pet Home
Take the pet home after a vet visit unless the pet is up to date and spay/neutered already. Activate the microchip.
