Rescue FAQs

Mutternity Project is a nonprofit dog rescue based in Los Angeles, dedicated to saving the most vulnerable: pregnant dogs and mama dogs with puppies. We provide safety, medical care, and loving foster homes to these moms and their babies—giving them the nurturing environment they deserve to heal, give birth, and grow. From rescue to adoption, we’re by their side every step of the way. Our mission is rooted in compassion, education, and community. We believe every mama dog deserves a safe space to raise her pups, and every family deserves a healthy, well-loved companion. Because when you rescue a mama, you save a whole family. 🐾 Learn more: mutternityproject.org Follow us: @mutternityproject

Additional adoption info

Mutternity Project: Adoption Process
Thank you for your interest in adopting from The Mutternity Project! We’re honored that you want to give one of our rescued mamas or babies a forever home. Here's what to expect:

1. 📝 Adoption Application
Once you submit your application, our team will review it within 7 business days.

Confirmation: You’ll receive a confirmation via email or text after submitting your application.

High-Volume Applications: If a dog receives many applications, we may give priority to those who have been waiting longer or are already pre-approved.

💡 Already Approved?
If you've been approved in the past but haven’t applied for a specific dog, we’ll first reach out via email/text with a "Match Me" questionnaire to help us find the right fit. If we don’t hear back within 24 hours, we’ll follow up with a call.

2. 🎥 Intro Video (Optional but Encouraged!)
Want to stand out? A short introduction video lets us see your excitement and helps us get to know you better.
Dogs with many applicants will be prioritized for those who submit a video.

3. ✅ Application Review
Approved: Yay! We’ll move forward to the next steps.

Not a Match (Not Approved):
When possible, we’ll reach out with feedback and suggestions, such as:

Ways to prepare for pet parenthood

Dog training resources

Educational events in your area
You're welcome to reapply after taking some time to prepare.

4. 🏡 Home Check
We’ll schedule a quick virtual or photo-based home check (via video, photos, or FaceTime) to ensure your space is safe and ready.

5. 🐶 Meet & Greet
You’ll meet your potential pup in person to see if it’s a perfect match—for both of you!

6. 📃 Finalize the Adoption
Complete the Adoption Agreement

Pay the adoption fee (a tax-deductible donation!)

Register your pup’s microchip

Review your dog’s first steps, vet records, spay/neuter timeline, and what to expect in the following days

7. 💍 Adoption Ceremony
A special moment to seal the deal!
We’ll take a family photo and ask the all-important question:
“Will you love this pup for the rest of their life?”
“I will.”
🎉 Congratulations—you’re now a family!

Let us know if you have any questions during the process. We’re here to support you every step of the way!
