Rescue FAQs

The Good Shepherd Rescue is dedicated to providing second chances for dogs in need by offering compassionate care, rehabilitation, and training. We rescue dogs—primarily German Shepherds and shepherd mixes—who are struggling in shelter environments or at risk of being overlooked, and prepare them for successful adoption into loving, permanent homes. Through fostering, positive training, and community support, we work to ensure every dog has the opportunity to thrive. We are a 501c3 organization and all donations are tax deductible. We have no facility and all our animals live as temporary family members in foster homes. We have no paid employees and every dollar donated goes directly to our animals.

Additional adoption info

The adoption fee helps cover a portion of the care provided for our animals, including any medical interventions/services received while in our care. All dogs are on flea/tick and parasite prevention for the duration of foster care.

Notes about puppies: Adopters can expect a new puppy to have accidents, chew things they shouldn't, and have other normal, energetic puppy issues until they are trained, including jumping, mouthing, and general youthful naughtiness. If you experience puppy issues, please feel free to contact us; we’re happy to offer guidance.

TGSR is a nonprofit organization. We have no paid staff, and all applications are reviewed and processed by our volunteers. Please be patient and understand that it may take 7-14 days to process your application, check your references, and gather follow-up info. You can expedite the process by providing accurate phone numbers and email addresses for your vet and landlord references, and by answering each question fully. Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if you and the dog are a good fit. If it seems the adoption will be a good match for all, we will collect the adoption fee and complete the adoption contract.

TGSR is a NO KILL rescue organization, and we have a LIFETIME COMMITMENT to all of our animals. If for any reason the adoption does not work out, the animal must be returned to TGSR. We will reevaluate the animal and choose a new home based on the best fit for it.
