Shelter FAQs

We are The Humane Society of Elmore County, Wetumpka, Alabama. We are an Open-Admission Shelter run on Private donations from individuals & businesses, and county/city service contracts. We accept monies, foods, supplies and Thrift Store items (for our Tail's End Thrift Store which is open for sales Thu, Fri & Sat's, 9-3 and for donations Thu, Fri, Sat 9-2:30). All proceeds are tax deductible.

All donations go to help us care for our animals and are tax-deductible. Our Humane Society can only be as good as the support we receive. Please help us with a tax deductible donation or bequest for the future.

Our staff is here for our animals and thank everyone who supports not only our shelter but all shelters, rescue group and animal control facilities everywhere. Please help us promote Responsible pet Ownership! Thank You!!!

If you live a distance and know you would like a certain Friend, Please do our Adoption Application here: https://elmorehumane.org/adoption-application-online-form2.html . Upon application approval we can then discuss whether we can hold that animal for a day for you to come visit that animal. We cannot hold animals for multiple days or weeks for you to come for as space is lives and we don't want to miss a great home for one of our pets if travel plans fall through or things change - we hope you understand.



You must be at least 19 Years Old to adopt.



Adoption Fees:

$100 for Dogs/Puppies
$50 for Cats/Kittens under one-yr old; "Name your Fee" for Cats over one year old
These fees include the mandatory Spay or Neuter; Free Health Exam by Participating Vet; Current Immunizations (DHPP-CPV; Bordatella for dogs and FVR-CP+Calici for cats) & De-Wormings.
Heartworm Test and monthly prevention on age appropriate dogs. Rabies vaccination if old enough; free health insurance for 30 days; goodie bag of information/treats





Adoption fee for other species done on a case by case basis.
