Shelter FAQs

Our Mission Statement To rescue the abused, abandoned, and dumped animals in the area. To provide loving care, medical attention, and socialization in as homelike an environment as possible. To provide sanctuary to those deemed "unadoptable". To educate the public on humane treatment of animals and the importance and impact of spaying and neutering dogs and cats. To do our part to put an end to pet overpopulation, abuse, and inhumane treatment of animals. Euthanasia is necessary to be humane to a pet, not to control population. Who we are Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary is committed to finding homes for all adoptable pets. We are a no kill pet adoption facility in Washburn, MO placing approximately 530 animals each year in to loving homes. We do not euthanize adoptable animals, and there are no time limits for animals in our care. Only animals suffering from significant medical issues or those that pose a danger are humanely euthanized. We offer lifetime sanctuary to any pet adopted from us. Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary has been serving area animals since 1995. We are a licensed animal shelter located on 11 acres near Cassville in Southwest Missouri. Our cats live in community rooms with plenty of space to climb, play, and socialize. Our dogs live in large, outdoor pens. They enjoy access to fresh water, food, shelter, and shade, with swimming pools during warm weather. We are a non-profit 501 c 3 organization funded through donations. We are NOT taxpayer funded. Volunteers are welcome any day. Volunteers under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. For more information visit https://www.havenoftheozarks.org/get-involved. Donations are appreciated. Our biggest need is always dry dog food. For more information on donating, visit https://www.havenoftheozarks.org/donate. Visitors are always welcome! Intakes are by appointment only. Additional adoption info

Adoption fees are as follows:
Puppies under the age of 6 months - $150
Dogs weighing 30lbs and less - $200
Dogs aged 6 months and up- $90
Cats under 6 months of age - $75
Cats over 6 months of age - $65

Special rates may apply for specialty animals, special needs or dedicated pairs.

All animals are spay/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped. Cats are tested for FIV/FeLV. Declawing is not allowed on Haven adoptees. Dogs are tested for heartworms.

We believe in an open, non-judgmental adoption process. We recognize that no one is perfect and try to match a person's pet expectations so fewer pets are returned.

We invite you to come in with your family (including fur siblings) and look around. If you find a pet you like, ask staff to meet the pet. Complete the adoption application either prior to coming to the Haven or at the Haven. Ask any questions you may have. Most of our pets can go home the same day.

We do not adopt a pet to anyone under the age of 18. We will not adopt to anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol. We reserve the right not to place a pet in a home based on the information we have or if we feel it is not a match for the person's lifestyle.

We are open EVERY day of the week (holidays may vary) from 9 AM - 4 PM. No appointment is needed for adopters. No adoptions will be started after 3:45 PM.
