Additional adoption info

Animal Allies has variable adoption fees. A higher adoption fee does not mean that we value a particular animal over another; it is simply a matter of supply and demand. Animals that are in higher demand and are adopted quickly have higher adoption fees, which then create a financial legacy for the animals that stay in our care for a longer period of time.

CAT ADOPTION FEES
Cat and kitten fees range from $25 to $255. Please see the individual pet descriptions for detailed adoption fees and information. Feline adoption fees include: microchip and registration, medical exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, spaying/neutering, fecal exam, and feline leukemia/FIV testing.

DOG ADOPTION FEES
The adoption fees for dogs and puppies range from $75 to $525. Please see the animal descriptions for individual adoption fees. Fees for dogs are based on a number of factors such as age, size, breed, or temperament. Canine adoption fees include: microchip and registration, medical exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, spaying/neutering, fecal exam, flea and tick treatments, and heartworm testing.

Animal Allies accepts cash, money orders, and VISA/MC/Discover. Adoption fees are subject to a Duluth sales tax rate of 8.875%. As a convenience for Duluth residents we are able to assist with your license application at the time of adoption. The City of Duluth pet licenses are available for $12.50 per year. Hermantown licenses are available at the time of adoption for a $12 fee. License fees are in addition to adoption fees.

ADOPTION FEE DISCOUNTS
Pets for the Elderly: Animal Allies receives grant funding from a nationwide program that encourages seniors to adopt companion animals. All adopters age 60 or older receive a $50 discount on any Animal Allies adoption fee.

Buddy Program: When adopting two cats at once, the total adoption fee will be reduced by $25. If adopting two dogs or a dog and a cat, the total adoption fees will be reduced by $50.

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Duluth, MN.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
