Additional adoption info
In order to adopt you must first submit an application. Upon approval of the application we will set up an appointment to meet a foster dog or invite you to the shelter to adopt a shelter dog.
You may obtain an application by visting our website
We require all family members and current dogs to meet the pet before adoption. We track the pets progress for the rest of it's life. We always take our pets back if something happens and you can no longer keep your pet. This is why we want to make sure it is a perfect fit right from the beginning!
We do adopt out of state but you must own your home and have a vet reference. We do not ship our pets. You must travel to Muskegon in order to meet them.
We do NOT adopt to homes with unaltered pets. No exceptions.

About Pound Buddies Animal Shelter and Adoption Center
We are a 501c non-profit organization. All of our members are volunteers, who share a common love of animals. In October 2003 our local animal shelter announced they would no longer handle adoptions of the homeless animals bought into the shelter. We worked with the county of Muskegon and eventually took over the adoption program for the shelter. Otherwise all animals taken into the shelter would of been euthanized if an owner did not show up to claim them. As part of the agreement with the county we also do the cleaning and feeding of the animals on weekends and holidays.
We also have foster families who take in homeless pets from the shelter to live with them until they can find their forever home.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?
Why should you adopt?
Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.
What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?
When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.
So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
