Additional adoption info

Currently, dog adoptions are $75.00 with a voucher and female cats are $$30.00 and male cats are $20.00. All adults are altered before leaving the shelter. Any animals under the age of 6 months can be adopted and taken home that same day after adoption fee is paid and contract signed agreeing to spay / neuter within 90 day period. Follow -ups will be done by the Animal Control Manager to assure compliance with spay/neuter laws.

Shafter Animal Control services the city of approximately 15,000 people. There is only one officer and two part time kennel workers. The program services include stray animal pick up, adoptions, education, animal law enforcement and much more.

Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
