Rescue FAQs

Volunteers For Animals of Batavia, Inc is a non-profit organization dedicated to caring for the animals in Genesee County including providing resources to assist animal care at the Genesee County Animal Shelter. Volunteers For Animals mission is to provide care, comfort and protection to companion animals in need in Genesee County, NY by engaging the hands, hearts and minds of our community. VFA seeks to promote compassion and kindness as well as a clear opportunity for adoption.
Genesee County Animal Shelter can only take in dogs from Genesee County. They are able to take in cats from the county if there is space available. Please call ahead. You do not have to be a resident of Genesee County to adopt from the Shelter.

Additional adoption info

To adopt an animal you must complete an application and be approved. There is a $60 fee for any animal which needs to be cash or a check - NO CREDIT CARDS. If the animal is not spayed or neutered, there is a $35 deposit which will be returned upon proof of surgery. All dogs must be licensed before leaving the Shelter. Please note that public offices that issue dog licenses are not open on Saturdays and Sundays.
