Additional adoption info

Please contact us for an adoption application. We home screen every potential adopter before letting them adopt. The adoption fees are low but vary based on cost of rescue, any medical treatment, spaying/neutering and microchip. We are a small rescue so please give us 24 to 48 hours to respond to all calls and e-mails.
Thanks!

About Citizen Kanine

We are a small, family run, large breed rescue. Because we believe that training, or a lack thereof, is often the cause for large pets showing up in shelters, we take every dog we rescue into our home for temperament testing, socializing and training.
We also offer training and advice to current dog owners to help keep their dogs in their homes.
How it all started:
I went to school for veterinary medicine and have always loved and been surrounded by animals. Originally I volunteered for several Southern California rescues and shelters, but people I knew or worked with would often come to me for training, behavior advice or pets that needed to find a home. After a few years of helping to train other people's dogs and unofficially finding homes for dozens of animals, I decided to do it "officially"! I started Citizen Kanine and have had no regrets!
I have been training and puppy raising assistance dogs for over 15 years and also have my AKC CGC evaluator's certification.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
