The county's dog control shelter is located on the east side of the Holsheimer-Lamar Memorial Shelter at 2084 Oregon St. in St. Helens. The Dog Control Officer uses social media to post photos of dogs cared for by the County.
Animal Control cannot accept stray cats at the Animal Shelter, nor can it assist residents with issues involving domestic or feral cats. Finders of stray cats are encouraged to post the information regarding them to county-area Facebook pages in an attempt to locate the owners.

Adoption steps
- Submit ApplicationApplications are processed based on compatibility and NOT on a first come first serve basis.
- Approve ApplicationWe have one adoption coordinator, so processing applications may take up to a week.
- InterviewAfter the adoption application is approved, you will receive an email or phone call with questions from our adoption coordinator.
- Visit the Facility and Find a PetAfter the interview, the adoption coordinator will a schedule a meet and greet with you and your family to ensure there is compatibility.
