4 Pawz Plus Critters

I began taking in handicapped animals in 2003 when I was asked to take in a puppy who had been dumped at the shelter by her owners who wanted her to be euthanized. After being assessed by the vet on staff, and determining that the puppy was extremely healthy. The only problem is she was born without eyes. She was a red & white dappled, teeny tiny 4 week old dachshund puppy. I immediately fell in love. We named her 'Zero My Hero' and called her Zero. 'Zero' for zero eyesight, and 'My Hero' because she was fearless. She taught us so much about animals with no sight that we did research on training blind, deaf & blind/deaf animals. If not for her we would never have taken in all the other handicapped animals that came after her. We found forever homes for & trained many animals & their new human families in how to care for their special needs.

Sadly, on March 23, 2012 we lost our dear beloved 'Zero My Hero' unexpectedly when she was attacked by a large dog. We miss her terribly and will never forget her or all she taught us.

The animals we take in are mostly smaller breeds... dachshunds, chihuahuas etc. and most are handicapped or if they aren't handicapped, they may be in need of a place to recooperate for various reasons. We also foster for Dachshund Lovers of Texas Rescue, so you may be directed to apply with them and the fees & ultimate decisions are theirs.

Please check out our Petfinder page to see all that are available. If the pet is a Dachshund Lovers of Texas foster, it will say so in their profile.

Since I am a extremely small rescue, I sell Scentsy Wickless Candles & Jamberry Nail Shields to help pay for medical expenses that come up with the animals I rescue. If you would like to help out, please check out my websites or email me for a catalog. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated.
