Areas Bideawee - New York Serves

With locations in Manhattan, Westhampton and Wantagh, Bideawee was founded in 1903 by Mrs. Flora D'Auby Jenkins Kibbe. Bideawee, which means "stay awhile" in Scottish, is one of the oldest humane organizations in the United States.

Bideawee - New York's Adoption Process

1. Submit Application

Adoptions are by appointment only. Fill out an online application and one of our Matchmakers will review your information.

2. Interview

First, interviews will be conducted via zoom. Someone from the Adoption Center will reach out to schedule an appointment.

3. Meet the Pet

If the zoom meeting goes well and you are sure you want to adopt, we will set up an in person meeting.

Please bring the following to your adoption appointment:

Photo ID with current address AND a copy of their utility bill with their current address.

Proof in Writing that Pets Are Welcome in the Building. This can be in the form of a lease, a letter from the landlord, or an email from the landlord.

Adopting a dog? Adopters must bring a leash, collar and harness.

Adopting a cat? Adopters must bring a sturdy, non-cardboard pet carrier. (Bedding optional but helpful)

We will still be processing adoptions out of our Wantagh and Westhampton locations.
