The mission for Walker County Animal Shelter (WCAS) is to provide humane care for animals that are lost, abandoned and unwanted. We strive to place every adoptable animal into a good loving home and encourage good pet guardianship through programs such as spay/neuter.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: In order to lessen the burden on taxpayers, WCAS has an established price list for animal surrenders, owner reclaims and adoptions. These fees cover some of the expenses (deworming, heartworm test, flea treatment) incurred while caring for companion pets, and in many cases can be avoided through responsible pet ownership.

Fee list (per animal) effective October 1, 2019:

Animal surrender – $10
Owner reclaim – $25
(animal previously spayed/neutered)
Owner reclaim – $80
(owner agrees to spay/neuter)
Owner reclaim – $150
(owner refuses to spay/neuter)
Adoption* – $50 (cats)
Adoption* – $100 (dogs)
Microchipping – $10
