Areas Companion Animal Foundation serves

We adopt to Humboldt County.
We do accept Southern Del Norte County and Western Trinity County along Hwy 299 to Redding, on occasion to animals that are currently spayed/neutered and that we can verify with your personal references (1 must be a close neighbor) current Veterinarian and home ownership (please acquire your local county assessor's office phone number). No rentals for out of county. Other requirements may apply to neighboring county areas.

Companion Animal Foundation's adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process consists of a two-sided, single sheet, application.

To ensure our animals are going to permanent loving homes, we do call Veterinarian and personal references and speak with land owners (if renting) or check with the county assessor's office for home ownership. This may take a day or more depending on availability of references and the land owner. Once an application is approved, we set up an adoption appointment.

There may be other requirements depending on individual circumstances.

Our adoption fee for cats/kittens is $100 which includes spay/neuter, vaccines, worming, parasite check, FeLV/FIV Test, and any other care that the individual kitty needs. A micro chip at the time of adoption is only an extra $25.

Dogs/puppies are $150 and includes the same (micro chip also included).
(We also provide low cost obedience classes for dogs!)

Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Have (or plan to have) a local Veterinarian.
Own your home or have approval of a land owner.
Spend time with the animal prior to adoption to ensure that he/she will be your life-long furry family member. If you have children we do like to view them with our kitties.
We strive to provide a loving humane forever home for all our animals.

About Companion Animal Foundation

We are a small animal organization that adopts out animals (mostly dogs and cats) to loving permanent homes. We are more than a rescue shelter though, we are an Animal Program Center that provides spay/neuter assistance vouchers to low income individuals. We also have a feral cat program which includes lending out humane traps to community members for T-N-R (Trap Neuter Return) and offering low-cost spay/neuter and vaccinations. We also run various programs for youth throughout the year that focus on the importance of good pet care. We have our annual Senior Day of Caring where we provide discounted veterinary services and have a low-cost micro chip clinic. On Sundays we offer dog obedience classes that teach pawsitive reinforcement! These classes are offered on a sliding scale so that low income individuals can also partake. As part of our fundraising, we run 2 thrift stores, one in Sunny Brae and one in Blue Lake. Shop and feel good about yourself, you are recycling and helping the animals! Our Sunny Brae store is our main program center and is the location of our animal adoption room.

We also provide 2-sided metal pet tags for $4 each. $2 for those who adopted from a shelter or rescue organization in the last 90 days and show proof of adoption.

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Arcata, CA.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
