Additional adoption info
In order to adopt an animal from Jefferson County Animal Control, you must be at least eighteen years of age. We also require any individual interested in adopting an animal to meet the animal in person, preferably with any other animals currently in the home, to be sure that the animal is the best fit for the new home.
The adoption process takes approximately twenty minutes and consists of meeting the animal, filling out and going over the Adoption Application, and working with the Rescue Coordinator to schedule any needed vetting. In accordance with state laws, all animals adopted from our facility must be spayed or neutered before being released to the new owners. Because of this, not all pets will be able to go home with their adopter on the day of adoption, but generally are in their new home within two to three business days of adoption.
