Shelter FAQs

The Humane Society of Tuolumne County is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization established December 12, 1947 . At that time, however, there was no facility. The animals available for adoption were kept in volunteers’ homes. In the late 1980’s, the Humane Society gained a business office, but the animals were still kept in the homes of volunteers. Then, in 1997, the Humane Society acquired its current facility in Jamestown where we house animals available for adoption and provide other community programs such as spay/neuter assistance.

Our mission: Find Homes for abandoned, abused and unwanted cats & dogs, while promoting responsible pet ownership, and maintaining a clean and safe haven for adoptable unwanted dogs and cats.

We are 100% supported through private donations and volunteers.

The HSOTC does not euthanize an animal unless our team agrees its quality of life is critically compromised.

We accept as many animals for adoption that our donations and volunteers can support. More donations and volunteers=more happy adopted pets and fewer animals euthanized.
We serve all of Tuolumne County.
