Rescue FAQs

History of the Brownsville SPCA The Brownsville Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has been in existence since 1997. It is a 501, C-3 non-profit organization supported solely by donations and membership dues. All contributions are tax-deductible. It is the purpose of the Brownsville SPCA to improve the quality of life for animals in the Brownsville area by helping educate the public in the proper care and responsibility of animal/pet ownership. It is further dedicated to helping return lost animals to their owners, to promote the responsible adoption of animals needing homes and to promote the reduction of the population surplus of unwanted animals by programs such as spay/neuter. While we do not have a shelter of our own, we do need volunteers to help work various projects we get involved with or sponsor. Foster families are always needed to help take care of injured or strays found by members of the organization. There is ALWAYS something for everyone to do. All are members deeply love animals and enjoy rescuing pets in need. Donations can be sent to our mailing address or through PayPal, just log into PayPal and enter bspca78520@aol.com
We serve many cities around Brownsville. We serve most cities located in Cameron County. Most of our adoptions usually occur in Brownsville.

Additional adoption info

We have families fill out an application prior to a home visit. If the family passes the home visit then the family fills out a contract. Our contract basically states that they will be responsible for food, shelter, and vet care. They will also be responsible for heartworm prevention. Contract states that if the family has any problems they are to return the pet to us. Brownsville SPCA also has permission to visit and check the welfare of the animal. Our adoption fees range from $60.00 to $100.00.

As a 501 C(3) non profit organization, tax deductible receipts can be issued. Please send donations to our mailing address on P. O. Box 4975, Brownsville, Tx. 78523-4975 or they can be done through Paypal, just log into PayPal and enter bspca78520@aol.com
