Shelter FAQs

The Woodford Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal organization located in Versailles, Kentucky. We provide shelter and care to the homeless and unwanted animals in Woodford County, surrounding counties, as well as animals from other states. We care for pets of all breeds and ages, with no time limit on their stay, and we are proud to maintain an annual placement rate of over 95%. With no government funding, we are completely dependent on private contributions to continue to provide care to around a thousand animals each year. Adoption fees include spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations and deworming while at our Adoption Center, feline leukemia and FIV screening for cats, heartworm screening for dogs, a microchip with a lifetime registration, a free veterinary checkup, and a starter bag of food.
Woodford Humane Society is based in Versailles, KY, but we have adopted pets to homes all over the country! We simply require that the cost of transport for pets who need to travel to reach their new homes is covered by the adopter.

Additional adoption info

Read up on our adoption process and adoption fees here: https://www.woodfordhumane.org/adopt/the-adoption-process/

All adoptions require an approved adoption application (sending an inquiry via the pet's listing does not qualify as submission of an application). Some adoptions require home visits.
