Areas Pet Adoption and Welfare Services of Oklahoma Serves

PAWS-OK serves mainly the Oklahoma City and surrounding communities.

Pet Adoption and Welfare Services of Oklahoma's Adoption Process

1. Submit Application

Complete an Adoption Request Form so we learn about your desires, household & experience.

2. Interview

The interview clarifies any open questions on the Request. This may take place by phone or e-mail.

3. Approve Application

Approvals can take 2-4 days. If approved a time and place is set up for a "meet & greet" of the whole family and the adoptable cat.

4. Sign Adoption Contract

All adopters sign a PAWS-OK Adoption contract that covers a variety of issues related to the adoption, care and medical needs of the cat.

5. Pay Fee

Adoption fees are $80 but can vary depending on the age, health and special needs of the cat.

6. Take the Pet Home

We will make a phone contact with the adopter post adoption to check that the cat is settling in, the adopter is happy & to answer any ??'s.

As of this date, we have suspended adoptions, cancelled scheduled events and removed our cats and kittens from our Adoption Center at PetSmart and returned them to foster homes. Our volunteers have taken safety measures to quarantine and are adhering to the CDC “Stay at Home” guidelines with their families and we are not asking them to leave their homes to meet adopters at this time. We are still accepting Adoption Requests for our rescued cats for adoption at a later date Thank you for your understanding. Please stay safe!
Adopting a new pet for your home is a big decision and should not be entered into without proper consideration of your lifestyle and the needs of the pet. We are open to all lifestyles and believe responsible pet owners are a very diverse group of people.

On line Adoption Requests are available at: or pick one up in our Adoption Center at PetSmart (8357 N Rockwell, OKC 73132)

We understand that some adopters have very specific needs that often we can't fill. For example, some adopters desire their cats to be declawed or to "mouse" or live outside. We seldom have these type of cats in our rescue but we are happy to reach out to others on behalf of the potential adopter, or direct them to other sources in an effort to find them a suitable feline companion.

We will, when appropriate, make contact with applicant's landlords and veterinarians before approving an adoption. It is very important to us that all pets in the household are current on all their vaccinations including rabies (state law), spayed or neutered and have a history of annual veterinarian visits.

Landlord Pet Deposits (per animal) are required at the vast majority of apartment complexes in the metro area. We may contact an applicants landlord to make sure the adoption of a new cat is within the apartment guidelines and that the pet deposit has been paid prior to adoption.

If at any time the adopter can no longer care for the cat they adopt from PAWS, we will take it back into our adoption program. Simply contact us. Returns can normally be arranged within days of the initial call.

About Pet Adoption and Welfare Services of Oklahoma

The Pet Adoption and Welfare Services of Oklahoma (PAWS-OK) is a non-profit pet rescue founded in 2008 and focused on finding homeless and abandoned cats new loving homes. Most of our cats are surrendered to us by people who can no longer care for their pets or who find themselves the caretaker of a neighborhood cat and / or kittens.

PAWS cats are suitable as house cats / family members only. Many of our adult cats have been family pets all their lives and the kittens we have are fostered in family homes and socialized as house pets. Most are dog friendly and wouldn't recognize a potential outside threat if it announced itself. All our cats are spayed or neutered, tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV, fully vaccinated, fostered in a home setting and checked by a veterinarian before adoption.

We are a small, all volunteer group whose goal is to match responsible owners with the right pet. When our cats don't fit an adopters specific needs we can provide them with information on appropriate pets available from other local rescues/organizations or individuals. We are also happy to advise anyone who is looking for a specific type of pet (breed of dog or possibly declawed cat) or looking to re-home their own pet or a stray that they have found.

We also seek to educate the public on the current Oklahoma animal welfare laws and urge everyone to communicate with their elected officials to encourage their support for animal friendly legislation.

And of course, we support all the spay and neuter efforts of our counterparts and other organizations. The greatest impact to our city's pet overpopulation issue and the resulting alarmingly high rate of euthanasia at our local shelters will only be reduced through spay and neuter programs. If you are looking for a low cost option for spaying or neutering your pet, please click on "Links" at for information on low cost services in your area.

PAWS-OK is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) designated organization and does not receive any public funding. Contributions are deductible under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. Every dollar raised by PAWS through adoption fees, donations and fundraising events is used to support our programs.
