Shelter FAQs

Purrfect Pets is a nonprofit humane cat rescue and adoption agency, dedicated to helping orphaned cats throughout the greater Kansas City area. We rescue hundreds of cats every year from shelters and the general public.

Elaine K. Doran, founded Purrfect Pets in 2003. Her belief is every cat has the right to a caring, safe and permanent home. Cats are placed into foster homes or are found at the adoption center located within the Oak Park Mall. Here, people can visit with the cats in a bright, fun and upbeat environment.

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
    1. You can submit an application online, or fill one out at the shelter. It helps us match you and your household to the right cat!
  2. Approve Application
    1. One of our staff members will review your application. If you rent your home, we'll need to check with your landlord that cats are OK.
  3. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. Besides basic care, we also require that our cats are kept indoors and never declawed.
  4. Pay Fee
    1. Adoption fees vary from cat to cat, but kittens are generally more expensive because they cost us a lot more to care for!
  5. Take the Pet Home
    1. You can bring a carrier with you, or you can buy a cardboard one from us for $7. We sometimes have gently used carriers available too.

Additional adoption info

An adoption application needs to be filled out and approved. We invite you to stop by our adoption center and visit the cats and kittens in person. Talk with an adoption counselor for information on each animal. We will help you find your match! A contract is signed upon approval and adoption. Fees can vary from cat to cat, depending on age, breed, and other factors, and usually range from $100-$220.
