Additional adoption info

You must fill out an adoption application, which you can download at http://arcofbaycounty.org/adoption.aspx. Once we receive your application, we'll do reference checks, a vet check and a home visit. Our organization is all volunteer, so sometimes this process can take up to a week (longer for out of town adoptions). We realize that this may seem invasive, but most of are animals were pulled from death row. We want to make sure that they don't end up back there.

Our adoption fee for dogs is $150. Please note that many of our dogs have sponsors and will have a lower adoption fee. This fee includes the spay or neuter, a general 4-in-1 vaccination, rabies vaccination, worming and the heartworm check. All dogs are kept current on heartworm and flea preventative while they are in our care. We use Interceptor and Comfortis on our dogs. Each dog comes with an awesome adoption kit, including a collar and leash, toys, treats, food samples, coupons, a free first groom from Barks & Bubbles, a free day of doggy daycare from Dagny & Dexter's Doggy Daycare, a free order of dog cookies from B's Barkery, 20% off of your new dog's supplies at Suncoast Aquariums & Pet Supplies, one free pet sitting visit from Lucky Paws Pet Sitting, LLC and one free day of pet sitting from Time on Your Side Pet Sitting!

The adoption fee for cats is $75. Please note that often we will have sponsors and the adoption fee may be lower. This includes the spay or neuter, a general 3-in-1 vaccination and a FIV/FLV test. Each cat comes with their very own adoption kit including toys, treats, food samples, valuable coupons, a free first groom at Barkes & Bubbles, 20% off of your new cat's supplies at Suncoast Aquariums & Pet Supplies, one free pet sitting visit from Lucky Paws Pet Sitting, LLC, a free order of home made treats from B's Barkery and and one free day of pet sitting from Time on Your Side Pet Sitting!

An adoption agreement must be signed at the time of the adoption.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
