Rescue FAQs

For the homeless, abused, or neglected animals of the Illinois Valley area, Safe House is a beacon of hope, a place for second chances, a warm spot to rest tired heads, to heal wounds and start anew. Safe House Animal Rescue League is a 501(c)3 (nonprofit) organization run exclusively by dedicated volunteers. We are implementing innovative and progressive life-saving programs throughout central Illinois that pave the way for No-Kill communities where no pets are killed simply for being homeless. We focus on rescuing pets who are at the greatest risk of being killed in shelters or animal control facilities and have saved hundreds of lives through our adoption programs. Safe House is a foster home based rescue where all of our pets live in home environments with real families until they are adopted. This prepares them for a successful transition to your home and allows us to know each pet as an individual. Please get involved and help us save more lives – volunteer, foster, donate.

Additional adoption info

All of our cats have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, de-wormed, microchipped, and tested for FIV/FeLV. Our adoption fee structure is as follows:

$75 - Kittens/Young (Up to 1 year)
$50 - Adult (1 Year +)
$25 - Senior (7 Years +)
$0 - FIV +

There is an additional $25 fee for cats considered to be an "Exotic" (Siamese, Persian, etc...)

If you are a senior (65 years or older) you can adopt any of our senior cats (7 years or older) for only $10! Please mention this special when applying.

While we try to keep our animal listings up-to-date online, sometimes the age range may be labelled incorrectly. Please don't hesitate to contact us for the most up-to-date information on a particular cat. Our cats are shown by appointment.

If you are interested in adopting or would like to meet our cats, please fill out our adoption application online at www.safehousepets.org/info/adoption and a volunteer will contact you promptly.
