Additional adoption info

1) You must be 25 years old or older.

2) Please fill out and submit an Adoption Application so we can learn more about you and your family. This must be printed out, completed, signed and mailed to HALO, P.O. Box 367, Manteno, IL. 60950 with a $25 check payable to HALO for processing costs. We are a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization.

3) When your application is received, a volunteer will contact you for an interview. Then we will call your references and veterinarian and speak with them; a determination will be made by our Board of Directors as to whether to continue the application process.

4) Once you have been approved, we will have you contact the foster family to make sure that the dog you have applied for is a good match for your famiy. We do not ship dogs . You will have to travel to where that dog is being fostered to complete the adoption. If everything goes well and you, your family and the dog like each other, the adoption takes place and a signed contract of adoption is necessary. In this contract you agree that, if for any reason you decide not to keep your rescue, the rescue will come back to us. We do not give refunds.

6) Adoption Fee: Our adoption fee varies, and includes a well-puppy visit, all necessary age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm prevention, bordatella, negative brucellosis test and spay/neuter if over six months of age. If the pup is under six months of age, we will require a $150 spay/neuter deposit that will be refunded when the procedure is completed within a stated period of time. The remainder of the adoption fee, if any, is used to help rescue other Havanese in need. You can be confident that 100% of our fees go toward the rescue efforts of our Havanese!

About HALO Havanese Rescue

HALO, Havanese Angel League Organization was founded in the year 2001, by a small dedicated group of people determined to rescue Havanese in need. We are a 501(c)(3) non profit group. All monies donated to HALO go directly to the care of our Havanese. HALO relies on volunteers, donations and adoption fees to support itself.
Our rescues come from puppymills and a few owner surrenders. We will take in the old, the special needs and the young. Although our main goal is to get the breeding dogs out of the mills, we will take puppies. All our rescues are placed in approved foster homes where they will receive Veterinary care, good food and lots of love until an approved home is found.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
