Areas Lexington Humane Society Serves

Fayette County in Lexington, Kentucky. We also partner with several rural shelters in KY to transport at-risk animals to our facility.

We welcome adopters from all over - you do not have to live in Lexington-Fayette to adopt from LHS!

Lexington Humane Society's Adoption Process

1. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet

Both adoption locations are open to the public for serious adopters at this time.

2. Meet the Pet

We require all potential adopters to spend quality time with the animal(s) they are interested before completing the adoption process.

3. Approve Application

We must speak with a landlord prior to adoption if you rent/lease. At this time we do not have an online approval process.

Please call or visit AdoptLove.net to see the location of the animal you are interested in. The adoption process may vary slightly due to COVID restrictions. Health and safety remains our top priority. Please visit our website for complete information!

About Lexington Humane Society

Founded in 1889 by J. William Sayre, the Lexington Humane Society (LHS) is a 501(c)3 organization solely dependent on private donations, grants and community support. We receive no operating support from the government or national animal welfare groups, including HSUS or the ASPCA.

Among other things, LHS is the largest pet adoption agency in Central Kentucky, we educate the community on responsible pet care and the compassionate treatment of all animals, and we spay/neuter the pets of qualifying families at a low cost.

Simply stated, we Give Love, Teach Love, and Adopt Love.
