Shelter FAQs

At North Florida Animal Rescue we believe we have an ethical and moral responsibility to see to it that every animal is treated humanely, with care, and with respect. We do not euthanize animals at our facility for space or poor health, unless they are suffering or have a terminal or untreatable illness. We do not take the decision to euthanize an animal lightly; therefore the decision to euthanize an animal in our care is made by a certified veterinarian. We are a limited admission rescue; we choose the animals that come into our care. The majority of our adoptable animals come from Animal Controls or other rescues unable to accept animals due to space.

Our Mission is to rescue, provide sanctuary, and re-home abandoned animals thereby reducing euthanasia through education and innovative community programs.

THE FACILITIES
We are located on 108 Acres of land located in Wellborn Florida. The property is dotted with beautiful, pecan trees and stately old oak trees. There are two ponds on the property; one is enclosed in the dog park and the other is near the picnic area where the goats and donkeys graze the lazy days away. On the property stands the Anthea Duron Adoption Center, our quarantine and adoption buildings house 50 dogs & 50 cats. We have a surgery suite, with state of the art surgery equipment and a totally separate isolation building created to house ill animals until they are ready for adoption.

Additional adoption info

To find a pet to fit your needs you can visit our adoptable dogs and cats. If you see a furry friend you’d like to spend some time with we encourage you to come to our facility, bring your family and spend some time getting to know your potential new four legged child. You will then need to fill out a dog adoption application, or a cat adoption application, and be interviewed by one of our adoption staff. We are here to help you make sure that you and the animal you choose will make a good match. Once the match is made, you'll pay the adoption fee and will be free to take your new pet home!

Adoption applications may be completed in person, by phone, by e-mail, or by fax. However, no adoption will be completed until a personal interview with one of our adoption counselors has been completed and the adoption application has been approved. A home check may be requested prior to adoption approval. The adopter must be present at the time the adoption is completed. Horses will not be available for adoption until late fall of 2012

Adoption fees INCLUDE mandatory spay/neuter surgery, preliminary vaccines, rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), heartworm testing for dogs, and heartworm prevention to take home. Cats will be FELV & FIV tested, you will also receive a friends fur-ever gift bag, microchip and registration, 30 days free Sheltercare Pet Health Insurance, and........unconditional love from your new friend, and the satisfaction of knowing you have given a homeless animal a second chance.
