Rescue FAQs

We are a volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit, no-kill shelter. Visit our website at HeartofRI.org for an in depth view of our policies, procedures, fees, and exactly what they include. Unfortunately, due to past issues with landlords/housing/insurance, a restricted breed policy is in place for Bully breed/Pit Bull type dogs. This means that you must own your home and provide proof of homeownership to adopt a Bully breed/Pit Bull dog or puppy. While we understand that this may be an inconvenience, it is necessary to help reduce the number of devastated dogs being returned.  We apologize for the inconvenience.
Rhode Island, only.
