Areas Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue serves

Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue is a boutique dog rescue organization made up of volunteers in Brooklyn, NY. We are happy to adopt dogs to qualified adopters in the NY/NJ/CT/PA/MA/Upstate NY areas - as long as we can do a home visit and get the dog to the adopter ourselves or with the help of one of our trusted sister organizations. We work closely with a rescue in Syracuse and often travel for adoption events. We help each other with placement and home visits to expose our dogs to the most possible potential homes. We are a very small group of individuals who often foster the dogs ourselves, so we work very hard to find the right match for the dogs. We are focused on quality, not quantity, and as much as we would like to save them all, we focus our efforts on rescuing the best dogs and finding the best homes for them.

Additional adoption info

THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING TO ADOPT A BADASS PET!

The decision to adopt is an important one that we take seriously. Please take time to read and carefully complete this application. Please include full explanations with as much information as possible. In order to adopt a pet, you must be at least 23 years old, be able to provide references and one form of government issued identification, consent to a home visit, pay the adoption fee and agree to all terms of the adoption application and contract. Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue reserves the right to deny any application for any reason. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Upon approval, you will then have the option to choose a Badass dog, sign our adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. The adoption fee is $450. This covers vetting, boarding, spay/neuter (if over 6 months), transportation from the rescued kill shelter, collar, leash and Badass adoption package. Your adoption fee allows us to save another life, we do not make a profit with this fee.

Please note it typically takes at least 7-14 days to process your application (including reference checks and home visit). If you haven't heard from a Badass representative after 7 days, please do email us to catch up at adopt@badassbk.com.

IMPORTANT: If you're planning on attending an adoption event please fill out our application 1-2 days beforehand to expedite the adoption process. Thank you!

About Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue

SINCE MARCH OF 2011 OUR TEAM HAS RESCUED OVER 1400 DOGS FROM VERY HIGH KILL, RURAL SHELTERS IN AL, FL, GA, LA, NC, SC, KY AND WV AND FOUND THEM ALL GREAT FOREVER HOMES.

Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, all volunteer network of rescuers, fosters and volunteers who work together to rescue, rehabilitate and find homes for sweet, loving, adoptable dogs from pounds in the rural south. The dogs we rescue are in danger of imminent death as they are on the kill lists at very high volume, high kill pounds. Some of these animal control facilities use extremely inhumane practices like gas chambers and heartstick to euthanize the dogs and many have kill rates over 90% before rescues get involved.

When we commit to rescuing a dog, we make sure the dog is well cared for and properly vetted. We spay/neuter, vaccinate, test for heartworm, provide flea and heartworm preventative, and deworm at private vets local to the shelter they come from. We treat illnesses before adoption, most often heartworm, but have also treated parvo and distemper, and provided for necessary surgeries for dogs with serious injuries. The dogs stay in local fosters or boarding for at least 2 weeks or until they are healthy enough to travel. Then they ride up north with professional rescue transporters who make sure their ride is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

When they arrive, the dogs go into foster homes where they get training and experience living in a home environment before adoption. Some of the lucky ones even get adopted upon arrival! We want the dogs to be in the best possible adoptive home, so we are diligent in finding the right match. Our thorough process includes three personal references, a vet reference and a home visit.

As an all-volunteer, non-profit 501c3 organization, all of our resources go directly to rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing Badass dogs. It takes a lot of money, time, space, and brainpower to rescue responsibly and we can use all the help we can get. If you can foster a dog, volunteer your time and skills, or donate funds or goods, please let us know. It takes a great community of dedicated people to save these deserving dogs and we welcome your involvement.

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Brooklyn, NY.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
