Additional adoption info
Once you’ve browsed our website or visited one of our events, then you may have seen a pug you wanted to get to know better or possibly it was love at first sight. We suggest that you fill out an application and list the pug’s name “by order of choice” on your application. Please click on the link below to access the application. Please follow the instructions on how to send it to our Adoption coordinator and she will contact you within a few days.
Once we receive your application we review it, contact you with any questions and schedule a meeting and home visit. Of course this home visit is looking for nothing but the safety of the home for the pug you are wishing to adopt. It is not a status check or a contest on who has the nicest backyard. It is simply “Will this pug be in a safe and loving enviornment for the rest of its life.” It is always said to us that we have a gift of knowing the pugs personality and knowing just by application which pug would do great in which home. It is kind of like match making. For example: A family comes to one of our petco. meet and greets looking for a young black female pug. After meeting all of the pugs and seeing their personalities they are interested in an 8-year-old fawn male. You just never know what you will fall in love with once you see them in action. Another example is: A man just lost his pet of old age and is looking for another pet right away. He fills out an application and is not picky on which pug he gets. He just knows he wants a pug. His application is reviewed. He is living in a home with no children and no other animals, has a fenced in backyard and is retired. We look into our pug roster and see that there is a 5-year-old female pug that loves men and does not like children and chases cats. This is a great match for him. The end of the story is great. They live happily ever after.
Once your home visit is completed, your application and home visit forms will be reviewed by the board and a decision will be made. If all is safe, We will bring the pug to you and they will be adopted into your family. We will have you fill out the agreement forms. These tell us that you have read about and researched the breed and know how to take care of a pug. What to expect when you bring in a rescue dog to a new home and things such as – what weather is appropriate for them to be out in and much more important information. You will be given the rabies tag and home again tag,(which is to stay on your pet at all times), A copy of medical records, the volunteer/foster mom or dad can help you with any information on the pug and give you information on their normal day and routines. The adoption fee will be paid at this time. The check will be cashed right away, but there is a two week trial period. If the adoption is not a good fit, or there is any problem within the first two weeks, your money will be returned to you. After the two week trial period the adoption fee is non-refundable. You sign a form at time of adoption that states “You will only return the pug to us if you later choose to surrender the pug.” The volunteer that cares for this animal is usually attached and cares for this pug, so you may receive a call or email checking on the pug a few days later. We love Christmas cards and photos of the new family member too. Always feel free to send them to your pugs’ foster parents. They will always be available to answer any Concerns and Questions. Our goal is to make this adoption a successful one
