Additional adoption info

All of our animals are up to date on all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, and tested for FIV/FeLV. We also started microchipping all of our animals receiving their vetting as of March 2023. Any health issues of which we are aware are treated prior to adoption. We do have some cats with special needs - if we know about a health condition, you will be made fully aware of the condition prior to adoption.

All potential adopters must fill out an adoption application on our website - www.tailsfromthecitycleveland.org. The application will be reviewed and an adoption counselor will contact you. A home visit may be conducted, and references will be checked. If approved, an adoption contract will be required.

Our adoption fees are $125 for kittens under 6 months old, $105 for kittens 6 months to a year, and $75 for adult cats.

If an adoption is not a successful match, Tails from the City will take back the animal you adopted from us at any time.

About Tails from the City

Tails from the City is an all volunteer 501(c)3 shelter that was formed in October 2011, when we rescued over 100 cats from a hoarding situation. Although many of the "original" cats have been adopted out, we continue to help cats in need (and unfortunately, there always seem to be cats in need).

We welcome all volunteers (must be 16 or older), and can always use donations of the following items:
>Monetary gifts for vetting, medicine, utilities, and supplies
>Gift cards to Costco, Petsmart/Petco, Target/Walmart, Officemax/Staples, Home Depot/Lowes
>Towels, sheets/blankets, cat or small dog beds
>Clumping litter
>Canned cat food
>purina or Kirkland Dry Catfood
>Kitten food (canned and dry) and KMR
>Treats, toys, scratchers, and carriers
>Papertowels, garbage bags, Spic and Span Floor Cleaner, Clorox Wipes, dishwasher tabs, and Dawn or Palmolive dish detergent
>Laundry detergent, fabric softener, and bleach
>Feline Revolution, Frontline, Pill Pockets, Lysine
>Face masks, disposable exam gloves

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Cleveland, OH.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
