Shelter FAQs

Construction of the first building was completed in November 2007 and housed about 60 cats and 4 dogs. Since its founding 5 years ago, the organization has saved over 1,500 cats and 100 dogs (not counting the animals the organization has helped to be spayed and neutered). Currently the shelter has about 581 cats and 25 dogs, as some are fostered in homes by responsible pet parents. At the all-volunteer shelter no one has ever received a salary not even the director. Therefore, 100% of all monies raised through fundraisers and by needed donations are spent only to house, feed, spay/neuter and provide medical care to the animals.
We rescue dogs and cats from all over South Carolina and southern North Carolina. When he have space we also save aimals from high kill shelters. We feed and do a TNR on over 30 feral cat populations from Little river, Sc to Georgetown, SC. We are always in need of Volunteers to work events, adoption center times, and clean the shelter in the mornings.

Additional adoption info

The first step is to fill out an adoption application for the animal you want. After the application has been recieved and processed (references checked) we will call and set up a phone interview after which an appointment will be made for you to meet the pet you chose, and in the case of dogs, bring your other dogs to meet them to be sure they will get along. Then a home visit may be done and finally the comittee will meet and a decsion will be made and you will be notified if you were approved or not.

If approved you will be required to sign a contract stating that for the life of the pet if for any reason you cannot keep it you will return it to us.

Also if the animal is to young to be spayed/neutered you will sign a contract that states you will bring the animal to our vet to have the procedure done on the day scheduled for it (included in the adoption fee).

Adoption fees are $75 dollars and include, spay/meuter,microchip, and up to date shots at the time of adoption.
