Rescue FAQs

Second Chance” is not a second chance for dogs, because that would presume they had a first chance and failed. The majority of the dogs we rescue never had any chances, first, second, or otherwise. The name of our rescue refers to giving humans a second chance to provide a safe, healthy, and loving home and environment for our dogs, since most of these dogs come to us after they have been abused or neglected by their owners. SCF solely relies on volunteers to get the work done and no one receives compensation for their work. SCF receives no funding from the government or the United Way. Our adoption fees and donations from other dog lovers cover our costs.
Second Chance Friends currently adopt to the following counties: Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Polk and Pinellas
  • 1. Submit Application
  • 2. Interview
  • 3. Home Check
  • 4. Approve Application
  • 5. Meet the Pet

Additional adoption info

Adopters must submit an application through our website. The application process involves a phone interview and a home visit to become approved to either foster or adopt. Our adoption fee schedule is as follows:

6 months and younger $300
6 months to 8 years $250
Over 8 years $200, (seniors adopting a senior dog pay $100 to adopt.)
