Shelter FAQs

The Humane Society Pet Rescue and Adoption Center serves as a center for animal adoptions and also provides animal control sheltering services for the cities of Gadsden and Attalla. Humane Society Pet Rescue and Adoption Center programs include educational outreach through school programs, and youth volunteer programs. Community outreach programs including spay and neuter programs, responsible pet ownership, and pet health education.
The Humane Society Pet Rescue and Adoption Center serves as a center for animal adoptions. We also provide animal control sheltering services for the cities of Gadsden and Attalla.

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
    1. The easiest way to make your adoption process faster is to first submit an Adoption Application to be approved by staff.
  2. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
    1. Come to our facility to meet your soon-to-be best friend! Spend time with the dogs in our Play Yard, or hang out in the Cat & Kitten Rooms.
  3. Approve Application
    1. Once you find your new buddy, fill out an Adoption Application to be reviewed by our Adoption Counselors if you have not already.
  4. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. After being approved, signing the Adoption Contract and paying the Adoption Fee is the next step for them to officially become yours!
  5. Take the Pet Home
    1. The final step is taking your new partner home! All pets will be spayed/neutered and microchipped before heading to their forever homes.

Additional adoption info

There is an adoption process that must be followed, including an application that must be approved by our Adoption Counselors. This process is in place to ensure that your adoption is in the best interest of the animal and that the animal is a good match for your home. Adoptions can take a few days. Please keep this in mind when you come look at the animals.
We encourage potential pet parents to fill out an application online if you would like to express interest in a specific pet or a certain type of animal that you are looking for. Filling out an application online helps to speed up your adoption process!
Our adoption fee is $100. This includes:

-Full veterinary wellness exam
-Parasite testing and treatment
-Age appropriate vaccines
-Spay/Neuter
-Microchip with complimentary registration
-Free 30 day limited Pet insurance trial through 24 Petwatch
