About Stillwater Cat Haven

My husband and I have spent the last 20 years pursuing my passion for rescuing feral and abandoned cats in Shasta County, California. We have spent almost all of our time, money, and energy transforming our home and rural property into a safe and secure sanctuary for hungry, injured, sick, and unwanted cats found in our community. Cats living in parks, near fast food restaurants, commercial buildings, vacated houses, and trailer parks are examples of this.

We work with local animal control agencies, pet adoption groups, and other caring individuals to keep these unwanted pets from being mistreated, struggling to survive, injured, or euthanized. Many were family pets before being abandoned. They are all frightened, very hungry, and many have been terrorized, but it is amazing to see how they quickly respond to food and a gentle voice.

We started by locating, feeding, trapping, spaying and neutering, releasing, and maintaining homeless cat colonies. There are currently 11 different locations where nightly feeding and monitoring take place. Spaying and neutering, feeding, and monitoring have all resulted in a significant time, energy, and financial commitment. As it became clear that many of the cats being cared for required a safe haven, we decided to relocate them to our property, where they are protected and loved.

We had no idea when we started this journey that our house would turn into a 24/7 sanctuary. We now have one part-time employee and buy carloads of food and litter every week to keep the operation running.

Please consider donating to help the homeless cats and contribute to the solution to the abandoned and feral cat problems. We will be eternally grateful, and life will be filled with purring, contented cats as a result!

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
