Rescue FAQs

The KATO Foundation originated as a New Mexico state wide vehicle to provide humane care for cats in a no-kill environment while waiting for adoption. As a 501c3 non-profit organization, donations to KATO Foundation's Kitty City may be tax deductible.

Kitty City was conceived as a cage less, safe, indoor-outdoor environment for our cats. We are a no-kill facility where every feline guest is examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered. Starting May of 2010 all Kitty City cats that are taken to our vet to be spayed or neutered are also micro chipped.

Kitty City residents enjoy a full range of indoor and outdoor play areas to explore. This also allows for visitors to interact with our cats rather than viewing them in a cage, and it allows the visitors to gain a better idea of each cat's personality. We feel this interaction does reduce the number of returned adoptions.

Our adoption fees are as follows:
Adult cats are $45

Adoption applications are available on our website. Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption approval.
Potential adopters must agree to keep their adopted pet indoors only, not to declaw their Kitty City NM cat and to return the cat to Kitty City NM if the cat does not work out in their home.
