Rescue FAQs

Weimaraners are a striking and beautiful breed and people are often attracted to them for their good looks without knowing the temperament and energy level that comes with those looks. Owners often them to be too challenging and will seek to rehome their dogs because they cannot meet the dog's needs properly. Our program assists owners, who do not have a reputable breeder to fall back on, to either place their dogs themselves or matches them up with applicants on file waiting specifically for this breed. Each dog in need of rehoming is treated on a case-by-case basis with our goal always to find the right family for that specific dog's needs.
We are a National Rescue program which is part of the Canadian Kennel Club affiliated National breed club specifically for purebred Weimaraners in Canada.

Additional adoption info

We are NOT a shelter facility and do not have a central location for dogs in our care - since we are a National club, dogs can be found in various locations throughout Canada but are largely based in Ontario and Quebec. Dogs in our program are either still with their owners while they wait to find a new home OR in a foster home.
Our adoption process begins with the completion of our detailed application which allows us to help determine whether this breed and more specifically, the individual dog available, is a good match for each particular applicant-family.
Once received, the applicant is contacted and the application is reviewed to see if there are dogs available and if they might potentially be a good match.
Then, a phone call or visit is made to the applicant and it is determined whether or not the applicant should meet the dog in need of a new home.
If it is deemed a good match, then the adopters must sign a contract and if at any time, they cannot keep the dog, they MUST contact our organization to discuss further. Adoption donation fees vary from $150 - $300.

There are instances where we will only act as a "referral" and owners or other Rescue groups will be responsible for their own screening process.
