Sunshine Chinchillas's Adoption Process

1. Interview

Looking to see why you think a chinchilla is a good pet for you and/or your family.

2. Approve Application

Upon speaking with potential adopters we can let you know if your application of adoption has been approved.

3. Sign Adoption Contract

By signing the adoption contract you are acknowledging the terms and conditions that were discussed in the interview process.

4. Pay Fee

5. Take the Pet Home

You will need a carrier to take your chinchilla home. You may bring one, or purchase one from Sunshine Chinchillas.

I do not adopt out to anyone under the age of 18 without a parents consent. The parent(s) will need to contact me and start the adoption process to ensure this is a family choice.

All rescues are to be family pets only and not used for breeding purposes.

If you cannot keep your chinchilla that was adopted I please ask that you surrender them back to Sunshine Chinchillas so that we may find them another furever home.

Please fill out the adoption form to start the adoption process. I will then contact you so that we can finish the adoption process.

All of the chinchillas that are in my care here at the rescue will have different temperments. Some have been through mulitple homes and may be skiddish. Chinchillas are a prey animal and are not inclined to act like a cat/dog. This does not mean that they will never seek out their human but with a rescue it can take time. Please ...remember that these animals have been through quite a bit and need time to adjust.

All adoption fees go straight back into the rescue for the cost of everyday needs (food, dust, hay, toys , vet care etc).

I cannot ever guarantee that the chinchilla you adopt will not bite. Having owned these animals for over 20 years I have been bitten with no idea why I was bit (maybe they got up on the wrong side of the wooden shelf that day). They are animals and sometimes animals bite. Please take this into consideration when adopting.

I have had quite a few people ask me how old the chin is that they are interested in. Unless I have a pedigree or it was the original owner that surrendered their chinchilla I have no way of knowing. Being that these animals can live up to 20 years , a 5 or even 7 year old chinchilla can be the perfect addition to a family.

I am a home based rescue and do not allow "tours" of my home or the space where the chinchillas are kept.

About Sunshine Chinchillas

I am a chinchilla owner located in Central Florida.

Most of my work consists of taking in and caring for rescues as well as my own pets.

I started this site back in 2005 to help people become more aware of the proper care of chinchillas and also to share my experiences with these wonderful creatures.
