Rescue FAQs

Homeward Bound in the Heartland was formed in 2009, through a small group of rescuers in the Omaha, NE / Council Bluffs, IA area that do this in our spare time because of our love and dedication in helping animals. We do not have a shelter, so many of our pets are placed in foster homes. We rescue homeless/abused/neglected/abandoned animals from high stressed situations. as well as those animals that are in danger of being euthanized at a shelter. We never discriminate on the basis of health, age or breed. By involving and educating the community, Homeward Bound in the Heartland works to raise the public's awareness of the plight of homeless animals as well as realizing the benefits of adopting an animal in need. Our animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive any and all medical treatment before they are placed in carefully screened homes.
Homeward Bound In The Heartland Animal Rescue is a registered non-profit (501c3) animal rescue organization. We are state licensed in Nebraska with the Department of Agriculture. We rescue homeless/abused/neglected/abandoned animals from high stressed situations. as well as those animals that are in danger of being euthanized at a shelter.

Additional adoption info

When you choose to adopt one of Homeward bounds animals, required adoption donations begin at $100.00 for cats and kittens All of our cats have been spayed/neutered, tested for leukemia and FIV, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas and microchipped prior to adoption.

Many of our cats have also received additional vet care as needed, such as surgery for injuries or congenital problems, treatment for ear, eye, upper respiratory infections, and viruses. Additional veterinary care beyond these services, for the (hopefully) long life of your cat, will be your responsibility.

Please be aware that there is a screening process and application involved in adopting a pet from Homeward Bound To help ensure that we place our cats in loving, responsible, and committed homes, we reserve the right to turn down potential adopters as we deem necessary. A home delivery or visit is a required part of the adoption procedure.

If for any reason you wish or need to return a cat you've adopted from us, you can do so within 72 hours your refund of the adoption donation is nonrefundable. After that, be it months or years later and we're still in existence, if you need to give up the animal, please bring it to us. We will place it in a new home.

cats are so for life...we're always here to answer questions and help solve problems.
