Shelter FAQs

Boone County Animal Shelter is the animal control and care agency for Boone County KY. We are committed to giving every adoptable animal in our care the best opportunity for a loving home.
We accept animals from Boone County residents only; however, adopters from any locality may adopt animals with approved applications.

Additional adoption info

Fees vary depending on a number of factors including age, type of animal and spay/neuter status. If an animal is not spayed/neutered prior to leaving the shelter, adopters are required to sign a contract agreeing to have the animal altered within a set time frame. Adoption fees, if any, include a certificate to assist with spay/neuter costs. All animals leaving the facility are microchipped and adopters receive a free vet visit as part of the adoption process. All our cats have tested free of feline disease and all adult spayed/neutered cats can be adopted for no fee.
