Rescue FAQs

At South Hills Pet Rescue (SHPR), our mission is to save dogs’ lives with compassion, urgency, and unwavering commitment. As a 501(c)(3) no-kill, facilities-based rescue serving the Greater Pennsylvania region, we open our doors and our hearts to dogs of every breed and every need. Whether a dog stays with us briefly or for a lifetime, we ensure they are met with safety, dignity, and dedicated care. Every dog at SHPR receives a thorough veterinary evaluation, essential medical treatment, microchipping, and spay/neuter services. Our on-site training and rehabilitation specialist works closely with each dog to build confidence, teach foundational skills, and support healing from trauma or neglect. For dogs who are not rehomed, our staff and volunteers provide lifelong comfort, enrichment, and love. We believe deeply in the bond between dogs and humans, and we welcome every adopter into our SHPR family for life. Our purpose is urgent and clear: to protect the wellbeing of abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs and to help them find secure, loving forever homes where they and their families can thrive together. At its heart, SHPR exists to save all breeds with all needs, guided by compassion, education, and a promise to never give up on any dog entrusted to us.   Thank you so much for visiting our page! Please also visit our website at www.southhillspetrescue.org! Did You Know? Once a South Hills Pet Rescue dog, always a South Hills Pet Rescue dog: if an adoption doesn’t work out, the adopter is required to return the dog to SHPR per the adoption contract so that SHPR can work to find him or her a new home.
Our rescue serves the Greater Western Pennsylvania region.

Additional adoption info

Interested in adopting? Our available dogs come vetted, microchipped, spayed/neutered and with some basic training. To download an application, visit our website at www.southhillspetrescue.org/adopt/. SHPR recommends homes with children age 10 and older, but ultimately it's the family's decision.

Adoption Process:
- Meet the pup, fill out an application, and schedule a meet-and-greet with our canine behavioral consultant (if you have other pets at home). Home check may be required.

Final steps include signing a contract, fulfilling the adoption fee, and taking your new friend home!

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are appreciated! Our PayPal address is shpr88@yahoo.com
