Safehome Animal Rescue

We are a non-profit organization, run by volunteers and fosters. We facilitate the rescue and adoption of animals in need by working with other rescues to remove animals from harm's way and into a "safe home".

OUR MISSION: To be directly involved in the rescue of abused, neglected, and homeless animals, and to provide information to the public regarding the needs of animals in their community and abroad.

Rescue FAQs

We rescue animals worldwide, but we only allow for the adoption and foster of our animals within Ontario, Canada so that we can keep in contact with all of our animals. We do not transport any animals out of Ontario; thank you for your understanding!

Additional adoption info

At Safehome Animal Rescue, our goal is to find the most suitable environment for each animal, and we reserve the right to refuse anyone for adoption or fostering. We want all our animals to find a loving forever home, and strive to achieve that through our policies and careful selection process.

We strive to ensure all animals are medically and emotionally sound for adoption. We fully vet all animals we adopt out, including spay/neuter. We will always, to the best of our knowledge, be honest about any health or behavioural issues. Most of our animals are stray or shelter animals, and we do not have their complete history. We cannot guarantee age, breed, or behaviour. What we observe with each animal may differ from what happens in your home; you must be ready to dedicate some time to helping your new friend adapt to their new environment.

An application must be filled out for each animal so that we can review and find the best possible adopter/foster. The selection process involves reference checks and a home visit conducted by one of our associates before you are permitted to adopt/foster, followed by a 1-2 week "home visit” before permanent adoption is finalized. This helps ensure the right match, as it allows both the rescue and the adopter to evaluate whether the animal's needs are being met in the new home, and how good of a fit you are for one another. During that time, until a permanent adoption contract is signed, the animal remains in the ownership & responsibility of Safehome Animal Rescue.

Our adoption fees are non-negotiable. Upon the termination of any adoption, the animal must be returned to Safehome Animal Rescue. Our fees vary for dogs; please check their bio for adoption fees.
Adoption fees for cats are as follows: $250 for adult cats, $300 for kittens, and $550 for a pair of kittens. These fees include all basic vetting - exam, vaccinations, and spay/neuter.

We will not under any circumstances adopt out an animal for breeding purposes, so please don’t contact us if you want an un-altered pet. Our goal is to educate people on the importance of spaying/neutering.
