Areas Star-Mar Rescue serves

Star-Mar Rescue prefers to adopt within a two hour drive from where the dogs is being fostered so that you can have several visit with your potential new family member and to allow us do our own home visit bringing the dog with us. You can find this information in the dog's profile. Then the adoption is completed back at the foster home. This way the dog is leaving with people they already know and going someplace they have already been. That offers the dog the least traumatic transfer. We never transport dogs.

Our Mission Statement is... Protection without harm. Our mission is to care for dogs in the most natural way possible, to promote the health and wellbeing of the dog by preserving their immune system and therefore their health. We do this through a species appropriate diet, natural preventatives for parasites, protecting them from chemicals on or in the dog, home or yard. Protecting their bone structure and organs by no spay/neuter until growth plates are closed (maturity) Encouraging their natural healing abilities through alternative medical practices whenever possible: Traditional Chinese Medicine, Homeopathic Medicine, Acupuncture, Reiki, essential oils, animal communication, chiropractic, and other energy modalities for care and healing. We adopt to guardians that either already practice this level of care or are eager to learn to ensure our mission statement is honored throughout the lifetime of the dog. Our mission helps your dog to have the best possible ability to share with you a long and healthy life.

About Star-Mar Rescue

Star-Mar Rescue is a member of Rescue Alliance of Hairless and Other Breeds, Inc. ( www.rescuealliance.org) a 501-C-3, non profit organization. Star-Mar Rescue is run by Martha Leary, assisted by dedicated foster providers, friends and family and is located on 26 rural acres in beautiful Wayne County Ohio. Aside from placing our own dogs, Star-Mar helps to place hundreds of dogs every year into other rescues by assisting in pulling dogs from shelters and from commercial breeding kennels/puppy mills. We take dogs into our program from shelters/pounds/humane societies, surrendered by owners and from commercial breeders. Star-Mar never pays an individual or breeder for a dog and never buys dogs off of Craigslist. All of our dogs are living in foster homes, fed a species appropriate raw diet and are on our Natural Care Program of no chemical flea preventative, titer testing in lieu of random vaccinations.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
