The Ames Animal Shelter is a safe and humane place for the care of homeless, unwanted, lost, injured and many other animals, while owners are sought. At the Ames Animal Shelter we promise to love and care for the pets brought to us to the best of our abilities; we promise to make them as comfortable as possible in a difficult situation; we will work responsibly to maintain our 95%+ reclaim and adoption rate! Animal Shelter Services include, but are not limited to: *Responsible adoption programs *Lost and found or wanted animal requests *Seeking responsible owners *Promotion of rabies vaccinations *Promotion of alternatives to animal abandonment *Promotion of spay/neuter *Protective custody of animals *Community education
The Ames Animal Shelter provides pet adoption services to all areas. Animal Control, owner surrender pet programs and other services are provided to residents of the City of Ames only.

The Ames Animal Shelter's adoption process is all about ensuring the right match for the benefit of both the people and the animal. We use our application screening process to pre-approve applicants for general adoption. This gets all the boring paperwork stuff out of the way so when you come in to the shelter we can focus with you on finding the perfect furry friend match.

Our applications are not a simple pass/fail process, but instead are an opportunity for us to gather information on the needs of your family and the situation you'll be bringing an animal into.
