Areas Saving Sunny, Inc. serves

Saving Sunny, Inc is a network of foster homes located in Louisville, KY. We are primarily a pitbull type dog rescue, but we often assist with dogs of varying breeds. Saving Sunny, Inc. not only adopts out of our own foster homes, but we also assist a local shelter partner with behavior assessment, socialization and adoption preparation in order to assist with adoptions directly from the shelter.

Additional adoption info

1. Interested parties are required to complete an adoption application that can be found on our website.
2. If the application is approved, a meeting will be arranged with the dog for humans, with a subsequent meeting with resident pets.
3. A home visit takes place after/during meetings to ensure that the home is safe for that particular dog.
4. If the home/dog feel like a good fit, we do a trial period that can last 2 to 7 days to ensure that it is a match.
5. When adoption is definite, we complete an adoption contract and provide the adopter with vaccination records, microchip information, and any other relevant information.
6. Our adoption fee for adult dogs is $150 and for puppies $200. That includes spay/neuter, all vaccinations and microchip

About Saving Sunny, Inc.

Saving Sunny, Inc. started 5 years ago in honor of Sunny, a pitbull thrown from a bridge eight stories into the Ohio river in 2009. Thankfully, Sunny is alive and well and serves as a fantastic spokesdog for folks who have difficulty understanding that pitbulls are just dogs. Our original mission was to assist local police with the sheltering of animal victims of crime, but that quickly evolved into the rescue of pitbulls when we realized that no organizations were pulling pitbulls from local shelters in 2009.

Since 2009, we have worked to open minds about pitbulls, including the minds of our rescue community. We pull dogs from local shelters and prepare them to live happily in homes through of foster program and our behavior program in one of our local shelters. We also offer behavior assistance in homes to keep pets from being turned into shelters and we courtesy post dogs to help owners re-home if they have no other options.

We have also received grant funding from Best Friends
Animal Society to offer food, flea/tick, leashes, and name tags to low income areas to assist families with supplies needed to allow their dogs to stay in their homes.

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Louisville, KY.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
